Dear Beate,

I have looked back at the discussion of the proposed names. These are
complicated quantities!

I think that we have agreement (and useful definitions) for the
following names:
sea_surface_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_first_freque
ncy_moment; s
sea_surface_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_second_frequ
ency_moment; s
sea_surface_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_inverse_freq
uency_moment; s

sea_surface_wind_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_first_f
requency_moment; s
sea_surface_wind_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_second_
frequency_moment; s
sea_surface_wind_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_inverse
_frequency_moment; s

sea_surface_swell_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_first_
frequency_moment; s
sea_surface_swell_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_second
_frequency_moment; s
sea_surface_swell_wave_mean_period_from_variance_spectral_density_invers
e_frequency_moment; s.

These names are accepted and I will include them in the next update.

I think the following names are fine, but I would like to check on their
definition:
sea_surface_wave_peak_period_from_variance_spectral_density
sea_surface_wind_wave_peak_period_from_variance_spectral_density
sea_surface_swell_wave_peak_period_from_variance_spectral_density

I would understand these to mean the mode of the variance spectral
density functions for the various types of wave. Is that correct? Is
there any more formal definition of these names similar to the integral
definitions provided by Richard Gorman? If we can agree the definition
of these three names they could also be included in the next update.

Looking back at your original posting you were proposing three
additional names:
sea_surface_wave_directional spread; degree
sea_surface_wind_wave_directional spread; degree
sea_surface_swell_wave_directional spread; degree
which were not really discussed in detail. Do you still wish to propose
these names? I gather that these can also be described in terms of
moments of the wave spectrum and it would be very helpful if you could
provide some definitions.

Best wishes,
Alison
