[CF-metadata] New standard name needed: "area"

Dear all,

I propose that the standard name "area" be added. It is needed for the
next round of CMIP (CMIP5), where we will collect the grid cell areas
for each model grid.

Furthermore, unless "area" is accepted as a standard name, we will have
to make a correction to the CF documentation. Currently Example 7.3
includes a line that reads:

  'cell_area:standard_name="area";'
