For consistency with the sea water names your velocity components should be
called
sea_ice_x_velocity:m s-1
sea_ice_y_velocity:m s-1
OK?
Your others
surface_downward_x_stress
surface_downward_y_stress
downward_x_stress_at_sea_ice_base
downward_y_stress_at_sea_ice_base
look right to me. It has been commented before that it would be useful if we
had some convention for helping software to work out what x- and y-directions
meant locally, but this hasn't been done yet.
