[CF-metadata] gaussian grid

Dear Frederique

For all grids, CF requires that lat and lon are specified. If the grid is not
a lat-lon one, they should be stored as auxiliary coordinate variables (see
CF section 5).

Section 5.3 may be relevant for the Gaussian grid, as a way of saving space.

CF also has a mechanism for recording how points on an xy grid are mapped on
to lat-lon. Some possible mappings are defined by Appendix F, which we can
extend as required.
