[CF-metadata] request for large number of new variable names

I'd just like to add that a standard name request should include a proposed
definition and the canonical units to be used.

Also, it's a good idea to search the existing standard names before making
a proposal. Since the CF website crashed, we don't have the functionality
we used to for searching, but there are still a couple of options:

BADC has a site that's like the old CF standard name search, at
https://badc.nerc.ac.uk/help/formats/netcdf/cf-standard-name-table.html

and the MMI ontology server has CF at
http://mmisw.org/orr/#http://mmisw.org/ont/cf/parameter (or download the
whole thing in XML at
mmisw.org/ont?form=rdf&uri=http://mmisw.org/ont/cf/parameter)

I'm not sure if these are the best sources, but worth a look unless someone
can suggest a more authoritative site.

Is anyone working on this?

I suggest first get experience with just a small number, maybe a few from each category, and then look at organizing the request into some major categories. Then the review process on the discussion list may have less churn. [1]

I have thought about it a lot because of a similar activity?recently I chose to systematize *all* the existing CF parameters, in order to organize Marinexplore's (/PlanetOS's) internal structure for terms. So maybe we can collaborate.
