Dear Martin, All,
Martin has made proposals for two new standard names:
1) barometric_altitude (m)
'Barometric altitude is the altitude determined by a pressure measurement which is converted to altitude through interpolation of the International Standard Atmosphere (ICAO, 1976). A mean sea level pressure of 1013.25 hPa is used for the surface pressure.'
This name was supported by John Graybeal and Jonathan Gregory. No other comments have been received. This name is accepted for inclusion in the standard name table and will be added at the next update.
2) barometric_altitude_above_ground (m)
' Barometric altitude is the altitude determined by a pressure measurement which is converted to altitude through interpolation of the International Standard Atmosphere (ICAO, 1976). The reference pressure is derived from the surface pressure measurement at take-off of the aircraft.'
This proposal is still under discussion, pending clarification of the definition.
Best wishes,
Alison
