Folks:
a few of our products include statistics (min, max, mean, std dev)
associated with quantities that are the difference between the
toa_brightness_temperature or sea_surface_skin_temperature obtained or
calculated using two different methods at the same location in space and
time.
In the standard name table there is one standard name that is related to
this scenario: "difference_of_air_pressure_from_model_reference". It would
seem that establishing a new standard name for these difference values
seems like an unnecessary expansion of the standard name table.
Maybe adding a new standard_name modifier "difference" is a better idea.
For example:
float mean_of_temp_diff ;
standard_name = "toa_brightness_temperature difference"
units = "K" ;
coordinates = "lat_range lon_range" ;
cell methods = "area: mean (interval: 0.1 degree) " ;
(Note that lat_range and lon_range are scalar coordinate variables with
boundary variables that define the latitude and longitude extents. Also
note that the spacing of the data from the source cells in 0.1 degrees in
lat and lon.)
Any thoughts on this ?
very respectfully,
randy
