[CF-metadata] Standard name table update 22 July 2011

Dear All,

The standard name table will be updated tomorrow with new names and aliases that have been agreed over recent months. Details of the planned changes are given below.

The update will be performed with the CEDA vocabulary editor. The changes will be submitted to the NERC vocabulary server today and should be published overnight. Tomorrow I will update the xml and html versions of the standard name table on the CF website. In this way the date and version information in the two locations will be kept synchronised. I will post again when the update is complete.

Apologies for not giving the usual week's notice of this update, but I will be on leave for two weeks between 25 July and 5 August and I wanted to get as many agreed names as possible into the table before then. At the end of this email is a link to the "current status" page of the vocabulary editor. The page shows entries for all the names that are included in this update plus some more that are still under discussion. There are some mailing list threads for which entries have not yet been added to the editor, e.g. Martin Schultz's emission names and some sea surface wave names dating back to 2010. I will complete the task of creating entries for all open standard names discussions when I return from leave.

Best wishes,
Alison

All names currently entered into the vocabulary editor can be viewed at the following location (apologies for the long URL): http://ndg.nerc.ac.uk//vocab-term-editor/vocab-term-editor/viewCurrentStatus/http%253A%252F%252Fvocab.ndg.nerc.ac.uk%252Flist%252FP071%252F17
Entries with green backgrounds are additions or modifications to the standard name table that will be published in this update.
An amber background means that a name has been accepted for inclusion in the standard name table but is yet to be published.
Entries with brown(ish) backgrounds are names that are still under discussion.
A blue background means a recent proposal that has not yet received any comments.
Once the update is complete, the entries for the published names will be transferred to the "completed work" page where they will be kept as a long term record: http://ndg.nerc.ac.uk//vocab-term-editor/vocab-term-editor/viewCompleteStatus/http%253A%252F%252Fvocab.ndg.nerc.ac.uk%252FP071%252F17.
