That's correct. Having the symbol "g" be an alias for standard free
fall was a mistake and is corrected in the UDUNITS-2 package (which now
has a UDUNITS-1 C API for backward compatibility).

If you prefer to continue using the UDUNITS package, then the following
edits to the units database file, etc/udunits.dat, will correct the
situation:

Delete the entry

g S gravity # approx. should be `local'

Add the entry

g S gram

after the entry for "gram".
