Dear all,
I would like to propose some new standard names relevant to cloud feedback.
They represent the tendency terms for cloud condensed water content in GCMs.
We hope to use these terms to better understand the model cloud responses
to greenhouse gas increase in the Cloud Feedback Model Intercomparison
Project (CFMIP) as part of CMIP5.
I would like to start by proposing a few examples first. If the examples
look all right, I hope to add other terms to make the list more
comprehensive. The total number of the terms amounts to 33.
The units are in 1/s.
[1] Cloud liquid water budget
tendency_of_stratiform_cloud_liquid_water_content_due_to_condensation_and_evaporation
tendency_of_stratiform_cloud_liquid_water_content_due_to_melting_from_cloud_ice
[2] Cloud ice budget
tendency_of_stratiform_cloud_ice_content_due_to_homogeneous_nucleation
tendency_of_stratiform_cloud_ice_content_due_to_melting_to_cloud_liquid
[3] Cloud condensed water budget
(this category is added because cloud liquid water budget or
cloud ice budget may not be available in some GCMs.)
tendency_of_stratiform_cloud_condensed_water_content_due_to_condensation_and_evaporation
tendency_of_stratiform_cloud_condensed_water_content_due_to_autoconversion_to_rain
The standard names proposed above follow the format;
tendency_of_{A}_due_to_{B}_from_{C}_to_{D}.
{A} is the name of cloud water variable such as stratiform_cloud_liquid_
water_content or stratiform_cloud_ice_content. {B} is a process such as
condensation or melting . {C} and {D} are water categories (optional).
They are added if the process {B} has multiple meanings such as
'melting of cloud ice', which may mean conversion of cloud ice to either
rain or cloud liquid water.
I thank you in advance for all your comments.
Best regards,
Tomoo
