Yes, because "height" is used (in ordinary language) to mean both vertical
location and vertical extent; to avoid confusion in standard names, we use
"thickness" for the latter. I agree that "cell" could be a confusing word too,
but its use in cell_thickness would be consistent with cell_area, cell_methods
etc.

I think that would be OK. We say derivative_of_X_wrt_Y.

change_of_X sounds like X is being replaced with something different, like
"change of government" or "change of plan", whereas change_in_X sounds like
it's essentially the same X, but it is being modified.
