Dear Jonathan,
Thank you for your advices; we'll use the cell_methods as suggested. For
diffusivity, we'll use " ocean_vertical_diffusivity" as standard_name
because I agree it may be enough.
Thus my request would only concern adding a new standard name:
ocean_vertical_diffusivity, expressed in m2s-1, and that would be defined by
"vertical diffusivity due to instability in ocean".
Thanks,
Merry Christmas to all
Olivier.

Objet?: [CF-metadata] Standard names for ocean parameters

We still want to indicate the statistical method, so it would be for
instance
cell_methods="area: mean where sea_ice".

Yes, diffusivity is fine, of course, as a general concept. I was wondering
whether you meant something specific by "eddy". Another way to ask the
question is, why not call it just ocean_vertical_diffusivity (and perhaps
instead "heat" or "momentum" if they have different values)?
Best wishes
Jonathan
