[CF-metadata] accessory parameters

It sounds like these parameters are quantities which could be exchanged among
workers i.e. they have a common meaning and use, and also that they might
be stored in files by themselves. We should give them standard names, I think;
that's the simplest thing to do, requiring no machinery.

Which quantities do you need names for?
