[CF-metadata] looking for a standard name

Dear All

I am working on the distribution process for european ocean model output
products.
But before all we ask for some kind of standardisation like all products
will be recorded in a NetCDF format and follow COARDS + CF convention.

For final implementation I have two questions:

- We couldn't find the bottom topagraphy of bathymetry name and we
suggested to use:

        float bath(latitude, longitude) ;
                bath:long_name = "ocean_model_bathymetry" ;
                bath:standard_name = "ocean_model_bathymetry" ;
                ssh:units = "m" ;
                ssh:unit_long = "Meters" ;
                ssh:missing_value = 1.e+35f ;
                ssh:_FillValue = 1.e+35f ;
                ssh:valid_min = ...
                ssh:valid_max = ...

- Since we are manipulating large amount of data, we are facing large file
size.
   Are you therefore aware of efficient compression algorithm to use and
compatible with software tools using NetCF format structure

best regards
