--- V44 standard name changes 1. New names a. Biogeochemistry names proposed by Paul Durack for the CMIP6 OMIP experiment mole_concentration_of_carbonate_expressed_as_carbon_at_equilibrium_with_pure_aragonite_in_sea_water (canonical units: mol m-3) mole_concentration_of_carbonate_expressed_as_carbon_at_equilibrium_with_pure_calcite_in_sea_water (canonical units: mol m-3) b. Physics names proposed by Stephen Griffies and Jonathan Gregory for the CMIP6 OMIP experiment specific_heat_capacity_of_sea_water (canonical units: J kg-1 K-1) 2. Aliases No new aliases were added in this version of the standard name table. 3. Modifications to definitions of existing names a. Definitions updated following discussion of OMIP biogeochemistry names The definitions of six dissolved inorganic silicon/phosphorus names were modified. For the silicon names, the final sentence of each definition was changed from ' "Dissolved inorganic silicon" means silicate ions in solution' to ' "Dissolved inorganic silicon" means the sum of all inorganic silicon in solution (including silicic acid and its first dissociated anion SiO(OH)3-).' For the phosphorus names, the final sentence of each definition was changed from ' "Dissolved inorganic phosphorus" means phosphate ions in solution' to ' "Dissolved inorganic phosphorus" means the sum of all inorganic phosphorus in solution (including phosphate, hydrogen phosphate, dihydrogen phosphate, and phosphoric acid).' The names affected were: tendency_of_ocean_mole_content_of_dissolved_inorganic_silicon tendency_of_ocean_mole_content_of_dissolved_inorganic_silicon_due_to_biological_processes tendency_of_mole_concentration_of_dissolved_inorganic_silicon_in_sea_water_due_to_biological_processes tendency_of_ocean_mole_content_of_dissolved_inorganic_phosphorus tendency_of_ocean_mole_content_of_dissolved_inorganic_phosphorus_due_to_biological_processes tendency_of_mole_concentration_of_dissolved_inorganic_phosphorus_in_sea_water_due_to_biological_processes The definition of the name sea_water_ph_reported_on_total_scale was modified to replace the word 'activity' with 'concentration' in the sentence ' sea_water_pH_reported_on_total_scale' is the measure of acidity of seawater, defined as the negative logarithm of the concentration of dissolved hydrogen ions plus bisulfate ions in a sea water medium; it can be measured or calculated; when measured the scale is defined according to a series of buffers prepared in artificial seawater containing bisulfate.' b. Definitions updated following discussion of OMIP physics names The sentence 'Brunt-Vaisala frequency is also sometimes called "buoyancy frequency" and is a measure of the vertical stratification of the medium' was added to the definitions of two names: brunt_vaisala_frequency_in_air square_of_brunt_vaisala_frequency_in_air --- ------ Alison Pamment Tel: +44 1235 778065 Centre for Environmental Data Analysis Email: alison.pamment at stfc.ac.uk STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory R25, 2.22 Harwell Campus, Didcot, OX11 0QX, U.K.Received on Thu Jun 08 2017 - 09:22:59 BST
