[CF-metadata] Waves

From: Lowry, Roy K. <rkl>

Dear All,

I have no problems with losing the information about the observer and so am happy with Nan's suggestion.

Cheers, Roy.

Please note that I partially retired on 01/11/2015. I am now only working 7.5 hours a week and can only guarantee e-mail response on Wednesdays, my day in the office. All vocabulary queries should be sent to enquiries at bodc.ac.uk. Please also use this e-mail if your requirement is urgent.

Sorry, I didn't suggest an alternative to the definition I was
objecting to. Would this be acceptable? It includes Chris Barker's
point about 'vertical distance' and the rest of Roy's definition, I think.

Significant wave height is a statistic computed from wave measurements
and corresponds to the average height of the highest one third of the
waves,
where the height is defined as the vertical distance from a wave trough to
the following wave crest.

Thanks - Nan
