For those with an interest in Gridspec, Ugrid, etc, here is an interesting
a development, an OGC RFC on a new candidate standard for discrete global
grid systems <http://www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressreleases/2349>

I recall Steve Hankin alerting us a few years ago that this may be on the
way.
