I'm mainly concerned with 'measure of salinity' since it's ... not
that. To keep this
quick, maybe we could simply change word 'measure' to 'estimate'?
Or to make the first sentence more clear, and less a collection of necessary
phrases, could we break it into 2 and change it to:
Practical Salinity is an estimate of salinity of sea water, based on its
electrical
conductance. The measured conductance, corrected for temperature and
pressure,
is compared to the conductance of a standard potassium chloride
solution, producing
a value on the Practical Salinity Scale of 1978 (PSS-78).
If that's too much, I'll go with John's version, or Alison's ... yes, it
would be good
to wrap this up.
