[CF-metadata] standard names for sediment trap data

From: Lowry, Roy K. <rkl>
Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2013 08:38:54 +0100

Dear All,

Downward motion relative to a fixed reference frame in the wet stuff would be described as a vertical current. However, I totally agree that we need to differentiate between downward fluxes - used for fluxes of electromagnetic radiation - from fluxes of particles descending through the water column. We've started in CF with sinking_flux to describe this phenomenon so let's stick with it.

Cheers, Roy.

Hi All,

Is there, or should there be, a distinction between downward motion of particles relative to the water, compared to downward motion relative to a fixed reference frame? (the difference being whether the water motion is included)

Best wishes,

      Philip
