Thanks for your reply. Over the years we have worked with the NARSTO
Quality Systems Science Center (
http://cdiac.ornl.gov/programs/NARSTO/)
developing a data standard for environmental measurements. One of the
issues we tackled was chemical nomenclature. The results of our work can
been seen on the page

interested in feedback from others working in similar areas. Please feel
free to share this with others in your group.

Dear Bill,
Thank you for your interest. I would say, this page is "sleeping", but
could be woken up if needed. Most of the conceptual discussions for
these first names for chemicals and aerosols have been settled, the
discussion can be followed at the CF mailing list, see
http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/pipermail/cf-metadata/ and search for
aerosol/chemistry.
