[CF-metadata] What do models assume for the shape of the Earth?

Dear John

Actually that may not be right. But anyway, the distinction is that "discovery"
metadata is high-level information for locating model experiments, so it says
things like, "HadCM3 AOGCM, SRES B1 scenario, 2000-2100". The kind of metadata
CF provides is for characterising the individual data variables in that dataset.

Metadata about models, rather metadata about data, is something that the
GO-ESSP project is dealing with. Metadata about models would tell you things
like the grid spacing of HadCM3, the parametrisation schemes it uses, and
maybe the radius of the Earth.

Bryan Lawrence, for instance, has useful things to say about these distinctions.

Cheers

Jonathan
